Guarantee

Our 10-year workmanship guarantee

Every job we complete comes with a written guarantee on our workmanship that runs for ten years. This page sets out what it covers, what it leaves out and how to claim.

The guarantee is a promise from Supreme Roofing Stroud about the quality of the work we do. If a defect in our workmanship shows up within ten years of completion, we put it right at our cost. It is given in writing with your final invoice, and it names the property, the date and the work done.

This is a guarantee from us. No insurer stands behind it, and it should not be read as a policy.

What the guarantee covers

Workmanship means how the roof was put together, not the weather it later meets. Cover includes:

  • Laid or fixed coverings that slip, lift or leak because of how we installed them.
  • Flashings, soakers, valleys and abutment details that let water in because of our workmanship.
  • Ridge, hip and verge fixings that fail because we fixed them wrongly.
  • Flat roof laps, upstands and outlets we formed that leak because of how they were made.
  • Making good that we carried out, such as internal or external repairs that were part of the job.

The written guarantee lists the work it applies to, so it is clear which parts of the roof are ours.

What it does not cover

A workmanship guarantee has limits, and we would rather you read them now than discover them later.

  • Storm damage. Wind, falling trees or branches, hail and lightning damage are not workmanship faults. A household buildings insurance policy is the usual route for those.
  • Misuse. Walking on the roof, fixing aerials or solar panels without care, pressure washing, or storing heavy items on a flat roof.
  • Other trades' work. Damage caused by anyone else working on the roof or near it, and defects in work we did not carry out.
  • Lack of maintenance. Blocked gutters and outlets, moss left to build up, or a defect you noticed and left for a long time.
  • Existing defects. Faults in parts of the building outside the work, such as failing chimney brickwork we did not rebuild, or structural movement.
  • Normal wear and ageing. Materials weather over time, and fading or surface change is not a defect.
  • Consequential loss. Costs beyond making the faulty workmanship good, such as damaged belongings or lost rent.

Why it is not insurance-backed

Some guarantees are sold with an insurance policy that pays out if a contractor stops trading. Ours is not like that. It rests on Supreme Roofing Stroud alone. We say this plainly so you can weigh it. For a larger project, you may want to ask your own insurer or adviser about additional protection. Our page on how roofer guarantees differ explains the types.

How to make a claim

  1. Contact us. Phone 01453 933613, message us on WhatsApp or email, and quote the property address and the date of the work.
  2. Send photographs. Pictures of the leak, the slipped covering or the stain help, and so does a note of when you first noticed it. Where water is entering, catch it in a container, shift anything valuable out of the way and let us know.
  3. We inspect. We visit, compare what we find with the survey photographs and the job record, and tell you in writing whether the fault is covered.
  4. We put it right. Where the fault is workmanship, we repair it at our cost and confirm in writing when it is done.

Please report a problem promptly. Letting water run in for months can turn a small repair into a larger one, and the guarantee does not cover that growth. Our own policy is to deal with leaks first, and a leaking roof is made safe before anything else.

If we disagree

If we decide a fault is not covered and you disagree, tell us why and we will look again. Our complaints page sets out the next steps. The guarantee does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer. Separately, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires a trader to carry out a service with reasonable care and skill. Where that has not happened, you can ask for the work to be done again or, if that is not possible, for a price reduction.

Selling the property

Ask us whether the guarantee can be passed to a new owner, and we will confirm in writing what applies. The question is covered in our answer on passing a roof guarantee to a buyer.

Keeping the guarantee in force

Keep the written guarantee and the final invoice together. Keep gutters and outlets clear, and have the roof looked at after a storm. Our roof maintenance checklist shows what to check.

The wording on this page summarises the guarantee for general information; the guarantee document and this page should both be checked by a qualified legal adviser before they are relied on.
